This permanent exhibition’s objectives are prescribed by the Taitung Indigenous Cultural and Creative Industries Park (TTICC) and can be summarised as the preservation, research and educational turn associated with Indigenous cultural heritage and contemporary works of art of aesthetic excellence and historical or regional significance. This curation emphasises on reinterpreting the performative encounter between immersive installation and audience. The ultimate mission of TTICC residency project is to serve the Taiwan and wider communities by providing access to original works of art of the highest quality produced by the resident artists and designers. Through our permanent collection created by ‘Artist-in-Residency’ and ‘Emerging Artist Studio’, temporary exhibitions, publications, education, research and public programmes, TTICC art collections seeks to become part of the Taitung’s daily life of all Taiwanese. It attempts to champion art, artists, cultural practitioners and their ideas. These ideas are amplified by our curatorial approach through which displays of works from the collection are frequently changed – sparking new conversations and challenging historical narratives.
‘The Revival of Life and Consciousness in Taitung and Beyond’ re-interprets the cultural meaning from the ‘red quinoa’ in Taitung, and presents the works collected by the resident artists and cutting-edge art studio designers of the Taitung Indigenous Cultural and Creative Industries Park (TTICC) over the years. This exhibition explores the reciprocal relations between community-based conservation, plant and contemporary art. This relationship in between food and agriculture, life history and cultural shock may expand the multi-faceted artistic dialogue and encounter. At the core of this exhibition is trans-Indigenous curatorial practice, which has served as the principal means for responding to Bunun Nation ontological relationship with maluskun mas dalah (Earth: Sovereignty and Return to the land) – the Bunun concept of co-existence/dalah, which also means humility and fear toward the earth, and like in many First Nations cultures, posits a grounded relationship both culturally and spiritually.
